How we calculate

Service length is counted from your joining date to your last working day, both included, minus any unpaid leave. A year is 365 days and part years are paid pro rata. The daily wage is your monthly wage divided by the divisor used in each country.

  • You must complete at least 1 year of continuous service.
  • 21 days of basic salary for each of the first 5 years.
  • 30 days of basic salary for each year after 5 years.
  • Part years are paid pro rata. Days of unpaid absence are not counted.
  • Total gratuity cannot exceed 2 years (24 months) of basic salary.
  • Since February 2022 there is no reduction for resigning. You get the same gratuity whether you resign or are terminated (unless dismissed under Article 44).

Saudi Labor Law, Articles 84, 85 and 87 (as amended, in force 19 Feb 2025). Daily wage = monthly Γ· 30. Last checked 5 October 2026.

  • Half a month's wage for each of the first 5 years.
  • One full month's wage for each year after 5 years.
  • Part years are paid pro rata.
  • Calculated on your last wage. There is no upper cap.
  • If you resign: under 2 years you get nothing, 2 to 5 years one third, 5 to 10 years two thirds, 10+ years the full award. Article 87 exceptions (force majeure, or a woman resigning within 6 months of marriage or 3 months of childbirth) get the full award.

  • You must complete at least 1 year of service.
  • At least 3 weeks (21 days) of basic salary for each year of service.
  • Part years are paid pro rata.
  • Your contract may give more than this, never less.
  • There is no legal reduction for resigning. After 1 year you get gratuity whether you resign or are terminated.

  • For monthly-paid workers: 15 days' pay for each of the first 5 years.
  • One month (30 days') pay for each year after 5 years.
  • Daily pay = monthly salary Γ· 26. Part years are paid pro rata.
  • Total indemnity cannot exceed 1.5 years (18 months) of pay.
  • If you resign: under 3 years nothing, 3 to 5 years half, 5 to 10 years two thirds, 10+ years the full indemnity. A woman resigning within 1 year of marriage gets the full amount.

  • Service from 31 July 2023: one month (30 days) of basic salary per year, pro rata, with no minimum service.
  • Service before 31 July 2023 (old law): 15 days per year for the first 3 years, then 30 days per year.
  • If your service spans both periods, each part is calculated under its own rule.
  • There is no reduction for resigning. You get gratuity whether you resign or are terminated.

Labour Law No. 36 of 2012, Article 116, and the SIO gratuity system from 1 March 2024. Daily wage = monthly Γ· 30. Last checked 5 October 2026.

  • Service before 1 March 2024: half a month's wage per year for the first 3 years, then one month per year. Paid by your employer.
  • Service from 1 March 2024: your employer pays monthly contributions to SIO (4.2% of wage in your first 3 years of service, 8.4% after). SIO pays you this part.
  • Part years are paid pro rata.
  • There is no reduction for resigning under the current system.
